Are you due for a height safety inspection?

Height safety inspection and certification is required at either 6 or 12 months depending on the type of materials used in the systems. If systems are exposed to harsh environments, or if corrosion is an issue, more frequent recertification inspections are advised.

The Australian Standard states that the maximum life of PPE such as harnesses, lanyards and ropes is 10 years from the date of manufacture, providing that all harness components remain in a serviceable condition during that time, and providing they pass every bi-annual inspection.

Height safety compliance inspections

Our easy to understand, comprehensive reports clearly state the current compliance of your height safety systems, detail any non-compliance issues, and outline any recommended actions to ensure your systems remain compliant and safe.

As Australia’s leading height safety provider, RISSafety has a team of experienced Inspection Technicians to conduct height safety inspections and anchor point inspections to ensure you’re meeting Australian and New Zealand Standards and legislation.

Regular height safety inspections ensure the safety and well-being of workers, site visitors and end users. They identify potential hazards and assess the effectiveness of existing safety measures and systems including ladders, scaffolding, harnesses, Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), guard rails and anchor points.

RISSafety Inspection Technicians are trained, industry experienced and undertake regular professional development to ensure their skills and experience remain current. All inspection details are recorded in our secure database, as systems certification is essential to demonstrate the access and height safety systems meet the Australian and New Zealand Standards and legislation.

RISSafety Inspection Technicians

RISSafety Inspection Technicians undertake a comprehensive assessment of the safety measures and equipment used for working at heights to ensure adherence to Australian and New Zealand Standards. This includes:

  • Equipment inspection: Inspection Technicians thoroughly examine the height safety equipment including ladders, walkways, handrails, platforms, harnesses & PPE, fall arrest systems and anchor points. They check for any signs of damage, wear or defects that may compromise the equipment’s functionality and safety.
  • Compliance with standards: Inspections assess whether the height safety equipment and systems comply with relevant Australian and New Zealand Standards, such as AS/NZS 1891 series for fall arrest systems, AS 1657 for fixed ladders & platforms, and AS4488 for rope access systems. Inspection Technicians verify if the equipment is appropriately labelled,
  • Hazard identification: Inspection Technicians identify potential hazards associated with working at heights including assessing the workplace environment, such as identifying fragile roofs, unguarded edges, slippery surfaces or overhead electrical hazards. Factors like weather conditions and the presence of any hazardous substances or materials are also considered.
  • Work procedures and training: Inspection Technicians are trained to review the organisation’s work procedures, risk assessments and safe work methods related to working at heights. They can ensure appropriate training and competency requirements are in place for workers involved in height-related tasks. Inspections may involve assessing the availability and proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) like harnesses, lanyards, ropes, etc.
  • Documentation and record-keeping: Our Inspection Technicians maintain detailed records of the inspection including findings, deficiencies and recommendations for corrective actions. They may also provide recommendations on implementing additional measures, conducting regular equipment inspections, and establishing a system for documenting future inspections and maintenance activities, to improve the safety of the site.

The duration of a height safety inspection varies depending on the size and complexity of the site, the number of height safety systems in place and the conditions of the equipment. Generally, inspections for smaller sites take between two and four hours, while larger or more complex sites may require a one or more days. Our Inspection Technicians undertake a thorough inspection without disrupting your workflow and keep interruptions to a minimum.

This time investment is invaluable, as it helps identify potential risks while ensuring that all equipment meets legislative requirements. Safety is always worth the time invested.

Anchor point inspections

Anchor point inspections evaluate the safety and integrity of anchor points used for fall protection systems. Anchor points are structural devices or attachments designed to secure personal fall protection equipment, such as harnesses and lanyards, to prevent falls from heights.

During an anchor point inspection, RISSafety Inspection Technicians examine the anchor points to ensure they are in proper working condition and capable of supporting the intended load.

Our qualified inspectors will undertake:

  • Visual examination: Our Inspection Technicians will visually inspect the anchor points for signs of damage, corrosion, wear or other conditions that may compromise structural integrity. This includes checking the attachment points, connectors and any associated hardware.
  • Load capacity verification: Our Inspection Technicians will verify that the anchor points are designed and rated to support the expected load. This involves checking the manufacturer’s specifications, labels or documentation to ensure that the anchor points are suitable for the intended use.
  • Structural integrity: Our Inspection Technicians will examine the anchorage structure to confirm that it is secure, stable and correctly installed. This includes assessing the structural components, such as beams, columns, walls, or roofs to ensure they can withstand the forces generated in the event of a fall.
  • Documentation and record-keeping: Our Inspection Technicians will maintain detailed records of the inspection, including findings, any corrective actions taken and the next inspection due date.

Regular anchor point inspections are essential for ensuring the ongoing safety and reliability of fall protection systems. They help identify potential issues, such as deterioration or damage that may compromise the effectiveness of the anchor points. By undertaking regular anchor point inspections employers can mitigate the risk of falls and maintain a safe working environment for people working at heights.
